We Appreciate Our Heroes

Posted by Meyer L. Bodoff, CAP©

It would seem unusual for someone of the Jewish faith to find joy and inspiration on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Well, for the leadership and volunteers of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation it’s not unusual at all due to the First Responders Fund of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation.

This year 17 families and individuals delivered holiday trays to fire and police stations and emergency call centers, representing hundreds of men and women on duty during Christmas. It was our small way of saying thank you to first responders who gave up their holiday. A holiday which should be spent with family and friends but instead they went on duty to protect and serve each of us. As a community of faith, we are humbled over the commitment and dedication of these brave men and women.

Two years ago, we witnessed the horrific killing of five Dallas police officers. The entire community came together to heal, comfort, and care for those we lost and for those who still serve. The First Responders Fund of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation has provided a feeling of love and appreciation that we hope to continue each year going forward. And because of our generous donors and amazing volunteers, the number of trays and the number of volunteers grow each year.

If you would like to volunteer for the next holiday appreciation delivery please contact the foundation office at volunteer@djcf.org or 214-615-9351. Contributions can be made to the First Responders Fund of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation.
