Our History

The Dallas Jewish Community Foundation (DJCF) was originally established in 1973 as the trust and endowment arm of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas and the organized Jewish Community. Now, more than three decades later, the Foundation manages more than $150 million in assets. In addition, the number of individual funds and supporting foundations has grown to approximately 800, and these numbers are growing.

DJCF is an independently incorporated, publicly supported charity and has matured into a true community foundation. DJCF administers funds donated by individuals and organizations for the benefit of charitable causes everywhere. The funds are professionally managed to ensure that donors receive the greatest benefit from their charitable contributions and to ensure their philanthropic dollars are used to the fullest extent.

The Foundation has a long-term approach to charitable giving which facilitates the charitable intentions of donors during and beyond their lifetimes. By working with Professional Advisors, the Foundation is able to develop innovative gifting strategies with optimal tax benefits that help donors create their own personal legacy and fulfill their unique philanthropic goals.

The Foundation is structured to advise on and receive gifts of money, stock, bonds, life insurance, real estate and other property, and facilitates the creation and administration of supporting organizations, endowments, Donor Advised Funds, trusts and annuities. The Foundation is able to offer donors an outlet for community involvement while providing them with significant tax savings and freeing them from record keeping and reporting responsibilities.

Through the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation, donors can perpetuate their philanthropy, provide continuity of giving from one generation to the next, memorialize or honor loved ones and ensure the continued flow of income to organizations they support, an effort that secures millions of dollars annually for distribution locally and nationally.

The Dallas Jewish Community Foundation benefits from the experience and dedication of local community members. Attorneys, accountants, bankers, estate planners, financial planners, investment advisors, tax counselors, trust officers, life insurance experts and other professionals provide expert counsel through our Professional Advisory Committee and various other committees. The Investment Committee of the Foundation oversees prudent management of the funds.

Through the various planned giving vehicles offered by the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation, donors can accomplish their charitable, tax, financial and estate-planning goals while ensuring the continued ability to respond to the special needs of our community.
